This is not the router you’re looking for!

Since Monday, I have tried to get the practical part of my project going and I have an old router that I thought would help. The router is a WGR614v9 made by Netgear. (pictured below)

In order to set-up the router for my project I needed to do something called a ‘Firmware Upgrade‘ which takes the program running on the router and replaces with a new version. This is a good idea from time to time to make sure the router is behaving and to make sure the router is safe with the latest security patches.

For my project I wasn’t going to put a new version of the Netgear software on the router. I was going to put on a completely different software program that would give me lots more settings and options to enable me to build my Healing HotSpot. The firmware I was going to use was from the DD-WRT project that allows administrators and home users the chance to expand the ability and the options on their own routers.

As you can see in the following image, the version of router I have (version 9) is not supported, which means I have to get another router from somewhere.

Hopefully I’ll get one soon either from Uni or a friend otherwise my practical project will be turning into a research based project very quickly.
